What do you think would happen if Twitter banned NSFW content?
would there just be another exodus like with tumblr?

Well the artists that make NSFW art will migrate to other site similar to what happened to tumblr back when, the most likely would be 4chan, Reddit, and Newgrounds. Although Newgrounds will have a increase in mew artists, what will follow are the people that follow these NSFW artists and it just so happens that these followers are what make up the toxic side of twitter, so let's best hope twitter doesn't ban NSFW content or Newgrounds will be a toxic cesspool of losers that cancel anyone who is a normal functioning human being.

More than likely, yes, there would be another exodus. Although, the question of whether or not something like that would ever happen with Twitter is hard to say. Tumblr was popular, but as it is right now, Twitter is the crowned king of social media. Everything revolves around it and everything is included in it: social movements, politics, news, sports, art, online drama, etc, PLUS it has a younger userbase and more popular content creators (Youtubers, streamers, musicians, artists, game developers, etc.) use Twitter over just about anything else. I think Twitter execs, ideally, would look at happened with Tumblr's userbase and how good they have it in the realm of influence and try not to make the same fatal mistake. Although, who knows? Twitter may bungle...
